The Organisation: Mobility Tech Scale Up in Rapid Growth

This well-funded mobility tech scale-up has quickly secured a strong position in its international market. The founders have built and scaled technology companies before and understand that growth only works when product velocity and engineering quality move in the same direction.

The platform has been designed from the ground up as a modern cloud-native, API-first microservices architecture. There is virtually no legacy holding teams back. Decisions are made with the future in mind, but always grounded in commercial reality.

The coming phase is focused on scaling internationally and embedding AI deeply into both the product and the way engineering teams operate. AI is not treated as a feature layer, but as a structural capability that increases leverage and shortens feedback loops.

This is an environment where engineers are trusted to think beyond their immediate scope. Direction is not always handed to you in perfect detail. Growth creates complexity, and complexity requires people who can bring clarity.

The Role: Senior Java Software Engineer Amsterdam

As Senior Java software engineer, you step in at a defining moment. The fundamentals are in place. The architecture is modern. But the next stage requires sharper technical judgement and stronger leadership from within engineering.

You are not scared to make decisions that balance speed and sustainability. Not every problem arrives neatly packaged. Sometimes the challenge is technical. Sometimes it is structural. Your role is to bring focus, define the path forward and ensure what ships today does not limit tomorrow.

You look beyond individual services and consider the wider system. Performance, scalability, operational impact and team velocity are part of your daily thinking. You understand that architecture is about consequences, not diagrams.

You still write code, but your influence goes further. You raise the level of the team by simplifying complexity, by setting clear standards and by making pragmatic trade-offs when necessary.

AI will become an integral part of both the platform and the engineering workflow. Curiosity and adaptability are important. The goal is not experimentation for its own sake, but meaningful leverage.

This is a role for someone who is comfortable operating without excessive guardrails, who prefers progress over prolonged debate, and who measures success by what runs reliably in production.

What is required?

  • A completed Technical HBO or University degree
  • 5+ years of professional Java experience, preferably Java 21+
  • Strong experience with Spring Boot
  • Experience with microservices architectures
  • Experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with Cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines
  • Architectural system-level thinking
  • Experience mentoring or technically leading engineers is a plus
